Police direct firm to drop charges on emergency app – TheNigerialawyer

The police have directed Vigiscope Nigeria Ltd. to expunge the
payment options attached to the Emergency Crime Reportage app.

The PUNCH had reported that the firm demanded #12,000 for use of
the application but the force spokesman, Frank Mba, in a statement
in Abuja on Saturday, said there was no plan to charge Nigerians
for use of the app.

It said, “The Force wishes to state that there are no plans
whatsoever to charge Nigerians for services bordering on Emergency
Crime Reportage through the use of Police-VGS mobile app.

“The mobile app, which is comparable to the Police 911 emergency
toll-free line obtainable in other climes, is still undergoing
internal-test and the Force is working out modalities on how
Nigerians can benefit from its use free of charge.

“Consequently, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu,
has directed the Management of Vigiscope Nigeria Ltd. to expunge
the payment option on the app and to strictly adhere to the
original terms of reference.”

The IGP further directed a comprehensive investigation and
forensic auditing of all accounts over alleged payment of
subscription fees by some Nigerians.

The Force said it would continue to partner with relevant
private entities in evolving technologically-driven solutions
towards combating crimes and addressing security challenges within
the country.

“However, such partnership must be done taking into cognizance
statutes guiding the Force, the overriding interest of the public
and international best practices,” the police said.

The Nigerian Army (NA), has again debunked the report by the
Wall Street Journal (WSJ), a US-based news media on an alleged
secret military graveyards in the North-East (NE) aside the
Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery of 7 Division in Maiduguri.

In a two-minutes video produced by the Film Unit of the
Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) and obtained by
PRNigeria, the Army called on the general public to disregard the
misinformation been mischievously circulated alleging secret
cemeteries or killings orchestrated by NA.

Like other global nations, the Army said fallen heroes are
buried according to burial procedures, as entrenched in the
Constance, ethics, and traditions, as well as the administrative
policies and procedures of NA.

“It is therefore mischievous for any individual or group to
accuse NA of carrying out secret burials for its personnel that
paid the supreme sacrifice while fighting insurgents in the
N/East.

“However, all formations and units in NA including 7 Division,
located at Maimalari Cantonment, maintained a cemetery where
personnel and members of their family her buried.
“Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery is the only place where burial of
deceased personnel of NA are conducted in the whole N/East’s
Theatre of Operation.
“Cemeteries in the NA are usually partitioned into two sections for
the Christian and Muslim faithful. It is also a tradition for NA to
conduct burial in broad daylight, witnessed by Commanders,
next-of-kins, colleagues, brothers, sisters and friends of the
deceased.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, and
other top government functionaries, have on many occasions attended
burials of deceased personnel as a mark of respect and appreciation
for their service to the nation,” said the video’s narrator.
