Army trains 223 officers at Bangladesh military
institutions
The Nigerian Army (NA) has trained about 223 of its officers and
men at various military institutions in Bangladesh.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf
Buratai, made this known while receiving the new Bangladeshi High
Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Muhammad Shameen Ashan, in his
office.
Buratai, also lauded the Bangladesh Army for their combat
strides in tackling insurgency in the Asian country in the 80s.
The COAS, disclosed that his schooling years, together with the
requisite knowledge and training experience garnered in Bangladesh,
has helped him and Army prosecute the war against insurgency, and
several other military operations.
While maintaining that NA has a lot to gain from their
Bangladesh counterpart, Buratai, assured that the leadership of the
Army will continue to train Nigerian soldiers and officers in
Bangladesh military institutions in order to enhance their
professional, administrative and combat efficiency.
At the occasion, the Army Chief quickly appointed Major General
Enobong Udoh, Chief of Training and Operations, as NA’s Alumni
President for the Bangladesh National Defence College (NDC).
In his remark, Mr. Ashan, explained that both himself and
Buratai share a special affinity, as they both attended the
Bangladesh NDC in 2012.
He assured that the Bangladesh government will be willing to
strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria, as both countries share
similar policy objectives and developmental goals.
Aside the existing partnership in the areas of commerce and
trade, the diplomatic envoy, said the Bangladesh government will
also strengthen cooperation in the area of agriculture, education,
facilitation of immigration passports, and most importantly,
military operations.
Mr. Ashan, added that Bangladesh offers good opportunities for
Nigerian Army officers, and will look at ways to explore more areas
of opportunity to facilities lasting peace, efficient security and
economic development for Nigeria.
