*Hon. Justice Biobele Gorge-will Advocates Preliminary
Investigation In Nigeria To Address Resolution Of Civil
Disputes
Honourable Justice of the Court of Appeal, Biobele Gorge-will
has advocated for the need of preliminary investigations by
security agencies as a way of addressing the issues in the civil
justice system.
The learned Justice said this whilst speaking at the civil
justice resolution program (12th Annual Business Launch) organized
by Babatunde Ajibade, SAN.
According to him, when there is preliminary investigations,
then, most of the matters we are talking about will not happen.
The keynote speaker, Olasupo Shasore, SAN, said that to be
effective, the rule of law development requires clarity. He noted
that clarity about the fundamental features is what defines the
rule of law, stressing that, that should be our goal in Nigeria.
“This requires the proper forum for civil disputes,” he said.
Responding to why people lack faith in the system, Babatunde
Ajibade, SAN, said that it is because they see the courts as
inefficient, and that they cannot get justice. That when this is
the case, people will naturally default to where they can get
relief.
He also added that we have to look at not just the symptoms, but
the cause. He, however, noted that they also need to deal with the
symptoms.
