After two years coming up just shy, Robertson wants to take
Liverpool’s assist crown from his fellow fullback.
Each of the past two seasons, Liverpool left back Andy Robertson has fallen one
assist shy of being the Reds’ top creative force—and on both
occasions he’s been beaten out by teammate Trent
Alexander-Arnold.
On Saturday in the season opener against Leeds United, Robertson got the early edge on
the player who mans the opposite flank. Now he’s looking forward to
adding to his total and trying to beat out his teammate.
“We’ll see how it plays out this time,” Robertson of the friendly rivalry. “I had a lot of games to
make up last season and I nearly got there. We both do this
competition to get the best out of each other.
“These last two seasons we’ve shown that we can take the numbers
to a whole new level, especially with Trent breaking the record for
a fullback. If I’m close to him we’ll have both had a successful
season.”

Last season, Alexander-Arnold played two more games than
Robertson and the Scouser ended up with 13 assists to the
Scotsman’s 12 in the League, but it’s clear the team is the real
winner of their competition.
“We like to create chances and hopefully that continues,” he
added. “Us making chances and creating goals is a big part of how
we play and we get a lot of joy from it. That’s our aim and
hopefully we can do that.”
