Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House
of Assembly, has returned to the Lagos office of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in continuation of his
interrogation.
Recall that the EFCC started interrogating the Lagos Speaker on
Thursday over the alleged embezzlement of funds running into
millions of naira belonging to the state Assembly.
He was released on bail late Thursday night but returned to the
anti-graft agency office on Friday after an emergency sitting of
the Assembly.
A source told Sahara Reporters that Obasa feigned sickness
during the interrogation to avoid answering questions.
“Obasa became weak when confronted with a deluge of his
illicit properties and money laundering evidence by the team led by
an officer from the South-Eastern part of the country, contrary to
his earlier claims of no association with the properties,” the
source said.
“He became weak after hours of grilling by the vigilant and
dogged staff of the EFCC.
“To escape sleeping at the EFCC office overnight and the
effect of the weight of evidence on his shoulder, Obasa claimed to
be sick.
“He was then taken to the sickbay of the EFCC on the
directive of the Zonal Head, for immediate treatment and was
subsequently released on bail.”
Inside source confirmed to SaharaReporters that Obasa bought
some of those properties; estate in Ikorodu, besides Lagos State
polytechnic campus and an expanse of land in Ifako-Ijaye among many
others in the name of his business fronts.

These fronts earlier invited by the commission had made
confessional statements implicating and exposing Obasa’s ownership
of the properties.
Recall that the two-time Speaker of the Lagos State House of
Assembly has been facing several allegations of corruption.
Some months ago, Obasa appeared before the House panel of
enquiry on the corruption allegations levelled against him which he
eventually denied but admitted that N80 million as estacode was
approved for the training of the wives of 20 lawmakers in
Dubai.
Lagos Speaker had said: “We gave N4m to each of the
participants for air tickets, hotels, feedings and local travel.
Air ticket to Dubai alone costs about N2m. Some of these
allegations were raised for a crusade to get the Speaker out of
office.
“The House of Assembly is above common standard of
excellence and we have to train people, and this comes at a cost.
Learning is not cheap and I have never collected N80m for estacode
at a go before,” he had said
