Transfer Rumour Mongering: Inter Join the Hunt For Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum’s uncertain future has the sharks
circling.

There’s uncertainty surrounding the future of Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum. Since the summer
transfer window, the Dutch international has
been prime fodder for the transfer news mill.

While he has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool, the Reds
nevertheless kept him on the roster this season, despite the
interest of Barcelona over the summer. And now the European wooing
has commenced.

According to Italian media, Inter have joined the conversation
as well. While they have reportedly not made an official bid,
Inter’s chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has been asking questions
about bringing the 30-year-old to the San Siro this January.

Wijnaldum remains a huge part of Klopp’s midfield plans. The
boss clearly values Gini’s contributions on the pitch. Now that
valuation has to be evident in the new contract negotiations.

Especially given Liverpool’s current injury crisis, it seems
doubtful that they will let go one of their key starters in the
winter transfer window.

Whether Gini stays or goes is an open question, but for right
now, he’s one of Liverpool’s few remaining fit starters. That’s
likely all that Klopp’s focusing on at the moment.
