Liverpool Reportedly Seek to Reward Fabinho with New Contract

A new deal and a raise is said to be on offer for the versatile
Brazilian star.

Whether Fabinho is a midfielder or defender isn’t as clear now
as it might have seemed at the start of the season, before he was
pressed into service as something like a permanent solution to the
club’s defensive injury crisis.

What is clear is just how good a player the 27-year-old
Brazilian is, and just how important he is to Liverpool’s chances
as they look to defend their first league title in 30 years and
push for number seven in the Champions
League.

And as a result of that importance, the club reportedly intend
to open contract negotiations as they seek to give the player a
raise from his current £100k per week and to extend his stay at
Anfield beyond the summer of 2023.

That’s the word today from The Guardian and Fabrizio Romano, who says
Fabinho is now considered amongst the club’s untouchable players
and will be in line for a new deal that puts him amongst its
highest earning stars.

That would likely mean a deal in the £150-200k per week range,
one that brings Fabinho’s wage in line with the likes of Mohamed
Salah, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, and
summer signing Thiago Alcantara.

The Reds are also said to still be hopeful of extending Gini
Wijnaldum’s stay beyond the season—which suggests they don’t
believe his departure inevitable or the announcement of a
pre-contract agreement with another club imminent.
