The Delta State Government has taken disciplinary action against two senior engineers for allegedly issuing job completion certificates for road projects that were yet to be completed.
As a result, the affected officers, Engr. Gabriel Evuarhere and Engr. Samuel Nwokolobia, have been demoted with effect from January 1, 2024.
Engr. Evuarhere was downgraded from Deputy Director to Assistant Director, while Engr. Nwokolobia was reduced from Assistant Director to Chief Engineer. Their demotions followed the findings of a disciplinary committee, as conveyed in a letter signed by William O. Ogolokpe on behalf of the Head of Service.
The state government found both engineers culpable of corruption, dishonesty, and failure to adhere to laid-down procedures, leading to their punishment.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, while addressing the issue, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in project execution. He stressed that there would be no tolerance for misconduct and warned that future offenders would face even stricter penalties.
The decision to demote the officers instead of dismissing them outright was seen as a measured response, balancing disciplinary action with a degree of leniency.
However, the governor emphasized that subsequent violations would not be met with the same leniency, as the government remains focused on ensuring quality project delivery and value for money for the people of Delta State.
